Mestre Pastinha Playing Capoeira (Unedited)

I found this while searching youtube, and Tamandua said it obviously made the cut for this week's capoeira video.  Mestre Pastinha and his group CECA playing capoeira.  Check out Mestre Pastinha's toe tap in the back ginga ginga...  Bonus, see if you can spot Mestre Joao Pequeno!

There is nothing wrong with your sound... it is silent.

The documentary was produced in Bahia, Brasil by the historian of folklore Alceu Maynard in 1950.

Capoeira Video of the Week

Nothing like a little controversy. This game is an intersting one that has already been a point of discussion for Espantalho and Tamandua. Perhaps Espantalho and Tamandua can spark the debate! Those of you at the Berkeley barizado in 2008 will remember Contra Mestre Itapuã Beiramar from Rio de Janeiro. He is Mestre Nestor Capoeira's son, and an excellent capoeirista. Mestre Ferradura is a student of Mestre Marrom in Rio de Janeiro as well. Weigh in with your ideas in the comments section...

A Life in Capoeira Explored

Espantalho brought this article to our attention. Various prominent mestres talk about their lives in and around capoeira. It's a intriguing look into how various life long capoeiristas found their way to capoeira and how capoeira went on to shape their lives.
